The intended focus includes chemical engineering, petrochemicals, refining, industrial biotechnology, the forces of change in the economy, and technologies that have the potential for disruption.

Tom’s professional career in chemical engineering includes broad experience with process technology, process development, capital projects, and facility operations. His career began with a focus on fractionation with Exxon Research and Engineering Company. He subsequently held leadership roles with major corporations including Amoco Chemical Company, BP, and Flint Hills Resources, and he has had operating experience in two refineries and a petrochemicals facility.

After retiring from operating companies, he has been involved in technical consulting. He has served on the PE Exam Committee for the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), the Body-of-Knowledge task force for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and he has been an industry mentor for the senior design course ChE397 at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Tom is a Licensed Professional Engineering in the State of Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (Honors Program, Awarded with Distinction) from Purdue University.
